82nd ANNUAL JUBILEE DAY™ 2010

LARGEST ONE-DAY STREET FAIR ON THE EAST COAST

Contact: Jeff Palm, Executive Director

Mechanicsburg, PA — Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce’s 82nd Annual Jubilee Day™ will be held on Thursday, June 17, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is the largest, longest-running one-day street fair on the East Coast; and it is held right here in Central Pennsylvania – in downtown Mechanicsburg.

Over its 80+ year history, Jubilee Day™ has grown to have a regional draw of upwards of 60,000 people who attend. Admission is FREE. The event features wares from local artists and craftsmen, as well as great food, fun games, and exciting amusement rides. There is also a children’s area behind Citizen’s Bank, which features FREE kids games, activities and a petting zoo.

This year offers live music on two stages. “We have a full complement of some great local entertainment,” said Jeff Palm, executive director of Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce. “We are happy to shine the spotlight on great local talent.” Entertainment includes the nationally known recording artists "The Badlees", and local groups Jazz Me, Mark DeRose Band, and JMC Reach among others.

“There is something for everyone here,” said Palm. “We have people who take off work just to come to Jubilee Day™. They come with their families, meet their friends and neighbors and enjoy what is pretty much a good old fashioned street fair.” It is a central Pennsylvania tradition!

Palm is quick to point out that people should not stay away because of the crowd. There is FREE shuttle bus parking, as well as several churches and civic groups that offer free or low cost parking close to downtown. For a complete list of Jubilee Day parking options and all the details on Jubilee Day™, visit www.mechanicsburgchamber.org.

The Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce is also working with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in their fight against neuromuscular diseases. Nationally renowned artist Robert Finale and Kathie's Christmas will be introducing a specially produced piece of artwork. This artwork will be raffled off with tickets available on the day of and throughout the summer at numerous locations. Proceeds will benefit MDA.

With the collaboration with MDA, the Chamber of Commerce welcomes WHP CBS 21 and The CW 15 to Jubilee Day. Many of the CBS 21 personalities will participate throughout the day, including live weather updates during the evening news telecasts.

Palm acknowledges that without the generous sponsorships from local businesses, Jubilee Day™ would not be possible. “This event is not just a boost to the economy in one day, it is the Chamber’s fundraiser,” he explains. “Jubilee Day helps us keep our rates low; it supports commerce in Mechanicsburg and allows us to put on other community events throughout the year.” The Chamber also presents the summer concert series Concerts on the Corner, Streets of Treats, the Mechanicsburg Halloween Parade, the Christmas Tree lighting on the Borough square, and the Annual New Year’s Eve Wrench Drop.

2010 Jubilee Day sponsors include: PA Lottery, Cumulus Media - 104.1 WNNK, 93.5 WTPA, Hot 92.1, WHP CBS 21 & The CW 15, Lawrence Chevrolet, Giant Foods, The Cellular Connection, Appalachian Harley-Davidson, Sundance Vacations, PNC Bank, Maggie's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard, and PPL Electric Utilities Residential Lighting Program.
