Jubilee Day™ Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce 6 West Strawberry Avenue Mechanicsburg, Pa. 17055
Sponsored by 81st ANNUAL JUBILEE DAY™ 2009 LARGEST ONE-DAY STREET FAIR ON THE EAST COAST
Contact: Jeff Palm, Executive Director (717) 796-0811 Mechanicsburg, PA Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce’s 81st Annual Jubilee Day™ sponsored by AmeriChoice FCU will be held on Thursday, June 18, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is the largest, longest-running one-day street fair on the East Coast; and it is held right here in Central Pennsylvania in downtown Mechanicsburg. Over its 80+ year history, Jubilee Day™ has grown to have a regional draw of upwards of 60,000 people who attend. Admission is FREE. The event features wares from local artists and craftsmen, as well as great food, fun games, and exciting amusement rides. There is also a children’s area behind Citizen’s Bank, which features FREE kids games and activities, including a petting zoo and a puppet show. This year offers live music on two stages. “We have a full complement of some great local entertainment,” said Jeff Palm, executive director of Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce. “We are happy to shine the spotlight on great local talent.” Entertainment includes the well-known local talent of Hybird Ice, Smokin Gunnz, Mark DeRose Duo, and JMC Reach. “We are also pleased to announce that the long-time ‘voice of Jubilee Day,’ Ed Coffey will return to the stage as emcee during the Jubilee Day™ Open Ceremony at noon,” he adds. Coffey, an on-air personality with WTPA 93.5 FM, returns after a brief hiatus to continue his nearly 20 year stint as master of ceremonies for this community event. Cumulus Media, an event sponsor, will also broadcast live in the afternoon with Chris James from WTPA 93.5 FM. “There is something for everyone here,” said Palm. “We have people who take off work just to come to Jubilee Day™. They come with their families, meet their friends and neighbors and enjoy what is pretty much a good old fashioned street fair.” It is a central Pennsylvania tradition! Palm is quick to point out that people should not stay away because of the crowd. There is FREE shuttle bus parking, as well as several churches and civic groups that offer free or low cost parking close to downtown. For a complete list of Jubilee Day parking options and all the details on Jubilee Day™, visit www.mechanicsburgchamber.org. Palm acknowledges that without the generous sponsorships from local businesses, Jubilee Day™ would not be possible. “This event is not just a boost to the economy in one day, it is the Chamber’s fundraiser,” he explains. “Jubilee Day helps us keep our rates low, it supports commerce in Mechanicsburg and allows us to put on other community throughout the year.” The Chamber also presents the summer concert series Concerts on the Corner, Streets of Treats, the Mechanicsburg Halloween Parade, Dickens of a Christmas, and the Annual New Year’s Eve Wrench Drop. 2009 Jubilee Day sponsors include: AmeriChoice FCU, Cumulus Media, Lawrence Chevrolet, Giant Foods, Sprint Wireless, PNC Bank, SECCO and Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard.
